LITIJA CARNIVAL
Visit the Litija Carnival, which has a long tradition of more than 170 years.
The Litija Carnival has always been very recognizable in Slovenia. The carnival events thus managed to retain the satire, coloured by current economic and political themes. The main event of the carnival is a large carnival procession on Saturday, which runs through the city centre, where people can admire the big group costumes.
COMPETITION FOR THE BEST DONUT – FAT THURSDAY 20.02.2019

During the Litija Carnival, a special event takes place on Fat Thursday – the competition for the best donut. An expert commission evaluates the donuts and selects the donut of the year. You then get the chance to try it and judge it yourself!
OVERTHROWING THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT – FAT THURSDAY 20.02.2019
Visit Litija on the day when carnival figures are in charge of the city.
On Fat Thursday, carnival figures and Litija’s mascot Litko overthrow the government and take the power. The events are accompanied by special carnival dishes and the exhibition of award-winning donuts. The takeover of the city rounds off the entertainment programme for the youth and the elderly.

On Saturday, cultural creators prepare an unforgettable event for children. Saturday’s carnival events begin in the morning with the traditional Kids Carnival, where our youngest gather in Litija’s sports hall, dressed in costumes.

The highlight of the carnival events in Litija happens after the carnival procession in Litija’s sports hall, when the carnival figures have the chance to dance and party. A first-rate event you should not miss if you like to dress up.
SCHOOL CARNIVAL – SHROVE TUESDAY 25.02.2019
Th carnival for children from local kindergartens and school.
The great children’s carnival is meant for pupils of primary school (1st – 5th grade) and for the oldest groups of kindergartens in the nearby vicinity. The grandstands of Litija’s sports hall are also opened to visitors.
BURIAL OF THE CARNIVAL – ASH WEDNESDAY 26.02.2019
The carnival officially ends with the burial of the carnival.
The exceptional Litija Carnival ends on Ash Wednesday with the burial of the carnival. Carnival figures and Litko return the keys to the city to their rightful owners and then go grab a bite of roasted trout, traditionally made by the fishing community Ribiška družina Litija.
