Its main goal is to enhance the competitiveness, quality, and innovativeness of Slovenian tourism. The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), in cooperation with the accredited partner GoodPlace – the Institute for Sustainable Tourism, assesses how green and sustainable individual Slovenian municipalities and destinations are, based on international standards.</bdo></bdo>

The attainment of the Slovenia Green Destination Bronze Label provides the Municipality of Litija with an internationally comparable sustainability assessment, a foundation for identifying appropriate future improvements, and greater visibility in both domestic and international markets. The sustainability evaluation process, conducted every three years, is managed by the Development Centre of the Heart of Slovenia, which proudly serves as the green coordinator for the destination. It regularly gathers evidence of compliance with prescribed global standards across five categories: destination management, nature and landscape, environment and climate, culture and tradition, and socio-economic conditions. The Development Centre of the Heart of Slovenia also organizes numerous activities to achieve sustainability indicators, such as meetings with tourism providers, trainings, workshops, the creation and dissemination of promotional materials, awareness-raising on sustainable practices, and the promotion of the destination’s green vision.

The destination follows an action plan, which is newly prepared every three years and clearly defines measures to improve weaknesses or eliminate shortcomings identified during the evaluation process. Through annual reports on implemented sustainability measures, the destination demonstrates the achievement of its set goals.

AWARDING OF THE CERTIFICATE 2018

MEETING OF TOURISM PROVIDERS

Find cycling roads around Litija and the Heart of Slovenia HERE.

In Litija, We Keep It Clean and Green

Follow these simple rules to keep Litija clean and green

You will find 4 colours of bins in Litija: yellow, blue, brown, black and bigger white ones (you will find these at designated public areas with grouped recycling bins).

YELLOW:

PLASTIC PACKAGING:
Bottles (drinks, milk, cleaning products, liquid yoghurts); bags and foils (clean)…

METAL PACKAGING:
Cans (drinks, food – cleaned); metal tubes (toothpaste, creams)…

COMPOSITE PACKAGING:
Tetra Paks (milk, juices, cream, etc.); packaging made from a combination of plastic and metal.

IMPORTANT
Empty the packaging, clean off larger residues, flatten it (e.g. bottles, boxes), do not place it in bags!

ADDITIONAL TIP
Empty and flatten the packaging before disposal.
